Veaceslav Iordan for Mayor?

The Political Executive Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Moldova designated the interim mayor of Chisinau Veaceslav Iordan as the candidate for the office of Chisinau Mayor, Info-Prim Neo learned from sources that chose to remain anonymous. According to them, the final consultations started on Sunday and ended on Tuesday, April 3. The candidacy of Iordan was examined together with MP Vasile Tarlev’s and that of the minister of Local Public Administration Vitalie Vrabie. Iordan told Info-Prim Neo that he is unaware of such a decision, as he was not invited at the meeting and was not announced about this decision, adding that he is not a party member. When asked if he will accept to run on behalf of the Communist Party, Iordan said he didn’t make up his mind. In Info-Prim Neo’s attempt to obtain confirmation, sources from the anteroom of the leadership structures of the Party confirmed that today (Tuesday) the meeting of the Executive Committee was held, without offering details. The person who answered the telephone proposed to get in touch with Mark Tkaciuk, a presidential advisor and a member of the Executive Committee. The person who answered the telephone in Tkaciuk’s anteroom said Tkaciuk is not in charge of informing the media and will not give details. The members of the Executive Committee of CPRM, Grigore Petrenco and Valeriu Sava, said “this is an internal party issue”. Other members of the Executive Committee – Eugenia Ostapciuc, Victor Stepaniuc, could not be reached by telephone till the moment when the news was released. Local General Elections will take place on June 3, 2007. Seven parties announced their candidates for the office of Chisinau Mayor so far.
