Veaceslav Iordan and Dorin Chirtoaca will run in second round of local elections

The candidate of the Party of Communists (PCRM) for Chisinau Mayor Veaceslav Iordan and the candidate of the Liberal Party (PL) Dorin Chirtoaca will compete in the second round of local elections in the Chisinau municipality. They garnered the largest number of votes among the 18 candidates for this post, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the preliminary results released at 7.00 by the secretary of the Chisinau District Election Council Aliona Cazacu, after processing 86% of the ballot papers Veaceslav Iordan obtained 29.26% of the vote and Dorin Chirtoaca 26.62%. The candidate of the “Moldova Noastra” Alliance Party (AMN) Leonid Bujor polled 8.85% of the vote and the candidate of the Democrat Party of Moldova (PDM) Vladimir Filat got 8.06% of the vote. They are followed by the candidate of the Social Democracy Party (PDS) Dumitru Braghis with 7.84%, the candidate of the Christian Democrat People’s Party (PPCD) Alexandru Corduneanu with 5.07%. Valentin Crylov of the Electoral Bloc Patria-Rodina-Ravnopravie (BE PRR) polled 3.12%, Eduard Musuc of the Social Democrat Party (PSD) 3.1%, Ion Mereuta of the Humanist Party (PU) 2.98%, Vitalia Pavlicenco of the National Liberal Party (PNL) 1.87%, Svetlana Myslitski of the Republican People’s Party (PPR)1.4%, Petru Bodarev 1.32%. The candidate of the Social Liberal Party (PSL) Corneliu Ciurea obtained 0.62%, Ludmila Bolboceanu 0.52%, Mihai Petrache 0.32%, Ion Bujenita and Valentina Tapes by 0.28%. Aliona Cazacu says that at 7.00, with 86% of the ballot papers counted, the candidates for councilors on the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) polled as follows: PCRM – 28.9%, PL – 18.9%, AMN – 11.18%, PDM – 6.6%, PPCD – 6.19%, PDS – 5.9%, BE PRR – 3.83%, PU – 3.64%, PSD – 3.43%, PNL – 2.54%, PSL – 1.31, PPR – 1.05, the European Party – 0.98%, the Conservative Party – 0.78%, the Party of Law and Justice – 0.47%, the Green Alliance – 0.58%, the Labor Union Patria-Rodina – 0.37%, the Centrist Union – 0.33%, the independent candidates between 0.11% and 0.79%. For the time being, no independent candidate won the necessary 1.98% of the vote and cannot thus become member of the CMC. At the elections of May 25, 2003, according to the preliminary results at the same hour, the Party of Communists collected 41.9% of the vote for councilors, AMN – 25.3 %, and PPCD – 14.9%.
