The Central Electoral Commission registered the initiative group supporting the presidential bid of former prime minister Vasile Tarlev, nominated by the Future of Moldova Party.
Tarlev’s group consists of 87 people, with Alexandr Baicev registered as its leader.
Earlier, the CEC withdrew the registration of Tarlev’s group. The former prime minister initially decided to register as an independent candidate, but despite this, his group started collecting signatures in his support while using the insignia of the Future of Moldova Party. The CEC said this was against the rules, so at the second attempt Tarlev sought registration with the nomination of his party.
Today’s CEC decision brings the total successfully registered presidential groups to 13. All of them are due to return their respective lists of signatures by September 20.
To date, the sole presidential hopeful who has gathered enough signatures to be recognized as candidate is the former prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo.
