The package of laws for which the government assumed responsibility was aimed at enriching politicians of the Democratic Party of Moldova. Moreover, only three-four Democrats pursued goals this way, while most of the MPs of the government coalition are not part of those schemes, Valeriu Pașa stated in a public debate titled “Pandemic and Politics, barriers and chances of consensus” that was staged by IPN News Agency.
“The Government was requested to introduce several unnoticed enrichment schemes so as to legalize them. For the purpose, an extensive package of laws was formulated, covering many areas, and they assumed responsibility for those laws so as to move swiftly. This does not mean that the package didn’t include good measures that are needed for economic recovery and other things. They aimed to avoid the parliamentary debate as those from the parliamentary majority decided so. Initially, I thought they experienced problems in gathering together a majority, but things regrettably stand more trivially. They thought that if they pass this package swiftly, without a quorum, without presentation in Parliament, society will not learn about these schemes. But society learned about them. They simply made fools of themselves and evidently violated the Constitution as this clearly provides that such laws should be presented in Parliament,” stated Valeriu Pașa, projects manager of the WatchDog community.
He noted they organized the non-presentation of MPs at that sitting beforehand and those statements that make reference to the restrictions imposed by the Commission for Exceptional Situations are misleading.
“But the absolute majority of MPs of the government coalition have no connection with those games. There are three-four persons from the PDM who were to benefit and used the Government on the instruction of President Igor Dodon in this regard. Look at images of Ion Chicu while in Parliament. It was very clear that everything had been planned,” added Valeriu Pașa.
He also said that for the first time in the last ten years, the Constitutional Court didn’t play the politicians’ game. He voiced hope that this line will be kept by the CC.
“For the first time in many years, the judges treated the matter in a balanced way, strictly in accordance with the law. They didn’t play the game of the government or of the opposition.[…] They taught the opposition and the government a lesson and I hope such an approach will be continued and the current composition of the CC will maintain this line,” noted the expert.
