Starting with January 2020 until present, all the persons from Moldova’s administration, regardless of the posts held, failed the responsibility and attitude test because they were unable to manage the COVID-19 pandemic, expert in international relations and security Valeriu Ostalep, ex-deputy minister of foreign affairs, said in IPN’s public debate “Coexistence”, “war” or “diplomacy” of vaccines in the world? Impact on Moldova.

Valeriu Ostalep noted that vaccines against COVID-19 could be ordered starting with last October, but this was done later and the blame is borne primarily by ex-Premier Ion Chicu and the Socialists. A political post means rights and the fulfillment of particular obligations. Israel and EU states that have the same area as Moldova did much more in terms of vaccination. These states are more developed economically, but the politicians there left the presidential elections and useless discussions aside and placed the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccination at the forefront.

The expert said the Moldovan authorities are waiting to be donated vaccines, but should actually have a dialogue with all the states, including for purchasing vaccines against COVID-19. “About 1 million Moldovans have Romanian nationality too and many of them are not in the country and get vaccinated in other states in Europe. There are MPs who are not ashamed to say that they go to Romania to get a vaccine. I welcome the initiative to vaccinate the Moldovan citizens in Romania, but such a step does not diminish the responsibility of some of the Moldovan politicians,” stated Valeriu Ostalep.

The public debate “Coexistence”, “war” or “diplomacy” of vaccines in the world? Impact on Moldova” is the 181st installment of IPN’s project “Developing Political Culture through Public Debates” that is implemented with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
