The Liberal Party (PL) decided that the party’s first deputy chairman Anatol Salaru and deputy chairpersons Valeriu Munteanu and Corina Fusu will negotiate with their former colleagues from the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) – the Liberal-Democrats and the Democrats – so as to try and find solutions to the political crisis. The decision was taken in the March 12 meeting of the PL’s National Political Council, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The party’s leader Mihai Ghimpu said that it now depends on the other two parties when the negotiations start, but he expects them to be opened today, March 13. “The PL’s position is that none of the officials who compromised the country’s European course, is under investigation or is suspected of committing illegalities can form part of the new Government,” he stated, adding that they will not vote in Vlad Filat as Prime Minister again.
“The alliance must exist. The European integration objective can be achieved only if the democratic parties remain in power. The people voted for a democratic government that will improve their lives. Transforming AEI 2 into AEI 3 does not mean changes.”
The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) will be represented at the negotiations by Iurie Leanca, Liliana Palihovici, and Valeriu Strelet, while the Democratic Party by Valeriu Lazar, Igor Corman, and Andrian Candu
On March 13 it is a month since the PLDM withdrew from the agreement on the formation of the AEI 2. On March 5, the Government headed by the Liberal-Democrat Vlad Filat was given a vote on no confidence by Parliament and had to resign three days later.
