The Supervisory Board of the national public broadcaster Teleradio-Moldova at a meeting on December 30 decided to discharge Valentin Todercan from the post of president of the company, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The decision was explained on shortcomings identified by monitoring reports, including by the Council of Europe and the Electronic Press Association, namely the loss of credibility, transformation of the public broadcaster into a political instrument, infringement of the right to expression, lack of impartiality and pluralism, etc. Valentin Todercan dismissed the accusations as political retaliation, saying he will appeal the decision in court.
Todercan's dismissal was passed with 8 votes, with one abstaining, after the Board elected a new chairperson and secretary. Jurist Eugeniu Rybka was voted in as chairman of the Supervisory Board, while journalist Viorica Cucereanu as secretary.
When suggesting electing a new chairperson, Board member Igor Munteanu praised the former chairwoman Mariana Slapac for her courage, but stressed that “young blood” was needed on the Board.
The newly elected secretary Viorica Cucereanu said she knows the problems confronting the company. “The Supervisory Board did not address all the issues. I hope we will deal with them and solve all of them.”
