The United States is providing Moldova with a 1.3 billion lei grant to develop transportation infrastructure and increase the country's cyber resilience. A joint statement providing the financial support was signed on Wednesday in Chisinau by Prime Minister Dorin Recean and John Allelo, head of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission to Moldova, IPN reports.

The declaration aims to allocate additional support under the Development Goal Assistance Agreement signed by the Moldovan and US governments.

Part of the allocated amount will be earmarked for transportation infrastructure development projects to improve trade and economic cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine. Another part of the grant will be used for the construction of truck parking areas near the state borders, the purchase of equipment and the provision of technical assistance for the development of the Berești Multimodal Logistics Center.

The funds are also earmarked for increasing cyber resilience in state and public institutions. Assistance will include cyber security training and related skills development to anticipate and respond to cyber threats.

"We will continue to invest in projects that directly benefit the people of the Republic of Moldova and contribute to a prosperous and secure future for its citizens," said USAID Moldova Chief of Mission John Allelo.

USAID has implemented more than 130 development projects during its 30-year partnership with the Government of the Republic of Moldova, providing $2.1 billion dollars to the partnership.
