The Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) Party will take part in the 2009 parliamentary elections all by itself, said the party’s leader Serafim Urecheanu during the VII AMN Congress, which was held on Saturday in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. Urecheanu said the decision was due to the negative experience the party lived after the previous elections, referring to the “betrayal” of 4 April 2005, when the colleagues from the former Democratic Moldova Bloc – the Democratic Party and the Social Liberal Party – voted for Vladimir Voronin as President. The speeches of the delegates to the congress oozed with harsh criticism against the communist government. The main idea of the speakers was that the AMN’s election campaign would aim at transforming the party from an “Opposition leader” to a “government leader”, while keeping Moldova on the path of European integration. The attendees pointed out that it was crucial for the party to strengthen its ranks and become more organized before the elections. The AMN Program covering the period 2009-2013, approved by the congress, is titled “The Leap of the East European Tiger”, suggesting an analogy with the successful Asian Tigers like Hong-Kong and South Korea, and less known Carpathian Tigers, like Romania and Slovakia. The program consists of 21 objectives, among which is to seek association with the EU to further join it, accelerated economic growth and sustainable eradication of poverty. Education will be another priority for AMN. The program also promises a modern government, composed of professional, responsible and politically unengaged officials, and vows to fight corruption and build a judicial system “based on the power of law and not on the law of the powerful”. AMN commits to create new development opportunities in the countryside, to spur foreign direct investment in the Moldovan economy, and simplify the procedures for registering, licensing and authorizing businesses.
