The General Department for Culture of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) supports the intention of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to transfer by the end of 2006 the administration duties of a part of Chisinau’s cultural institutions to the local authorities. The interim head of the Department, Leonid Gorceac, mentioned for Info-Prim Neo that this decision is welcomed, in light of the solicitations presented by several institutions, including “Eugene Ionesco” and “Alexei Mateevici” Theaters to activate under the patronage of local authorities. The cited source hopes that afterwards the decision to transfer administration duties of some cultural institutions to the municipal authorities will be made, the Government will create efficient mechanism for institution’s financial support. In this context, Leonid Gorceac said that in Chisinau are many unused rooms, with a capacity of 400 and 500 seats. They belong to some schools, but have separate entrance and could be used by theatrical companies after proper repair works. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Artur Cozma announced at a press conference at the beginning of the week about the intention of the Ministry to transfer administration duties of several cultural institutions to them or to CMC. Cozma mentioned these institutions, saying that Organ Room could be one of them. Larisa Zubcu, director of the Organ Room told Info-Prim Neo that she will comment upon this issue when she will know more details about the intention of the Ministry. The edifice of the Organ Room needs urgent reparation works, which are estimated to MDL 20 mln. The building was constructed at the beginning of 20th century, being renewed the last time in 1974.
