The National Council of Rectors of Romania and the Council of Rectors of the Republic of Moldova support the European path of the Republic of Moldova and will actively work together to back the country’s accession to the European Union. The Romanian Council will take all the steps to support the Council of the Republic of Moldova to become a full member of the European University Association and other European associations. A resolution stipulating this was adopted at a joint meeting held in Chisinau, IPN reports.

The president of the Council of Rectors of the Republic of Moldova Emil Ceban, rector of “Nicolae Testemițanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, said that the implementation of the provisions of the resolution will mean a new stage in the development of Moldovan universities. “The problems related to the development of universities, to the autonomy of universities are of particular importance. Today, we want greater educational, financial, managerial autonomy and this will offer the possibility of developing the universities in the Republic of Moldova,” stated Emil Ceban.

“The National Council of Rectors of Romania and the Council of Rectors of the Republic of Moldova call on the governments of Romania and the Republic of Moldova to support the efforts made by the universities of the two countries to take part in joint programs and projects in the fields of education, research and internationalization, and to support mobility, for the benefit of students, teachers and researchers of the universities of both countries,” the president of the National Council of Rectors of Romania Sorin-Mihai Cîmpeanu said, reading the resolution.

Viorel Bostan, rector of the Technical University of Moldova, said that a series of previously discussed initiatives have been implemented, noting that the cooperation aspect is very important for universities.

Mihnea Cosmin Costoiu, rector of the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA of Bucharest, stressed that the European integration of the Republic of Moldova will bring to the universities and young people, students and teachers of Moldova the major advantages that the academic communities in Romania have also benefited from. “We came to explain how important it is to support this integration into European institutions, not only the state institutional ones, but also those of our universities. The direction that the counterparts from Moldova undertook to follow is extremely important,” said the rector.

Romania’s universities expressed their openness to organize polling stations inside their campuses, at the request of the Moldovan authorities, where students from the Republic of Moldova can vote in the October 20 election and referendum.

The joint working meeting of the National Council of Rectors of Romania and the Council of Rectors of the Republic of Moldova was organized on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Technical University of Moldova.
