The Debut Film Festival, a film event dedicated to young filmmakers, will be held in Chisinau in November. The announcement was made by the Union of Filmmakers of Moldova. Participants are invited to register for the event before October 20.
The festival will take place on November 8, 9, and 10. In a news conference hosted by IPN, the president of the Union of Filmmakers of Moldova Virgiliu Mărgineanu said that it is a project that seeks to encourage young people from the Republic of Moldova to come and present their works on the big screen.
“The Union of Filmmakers is one of the unions that has the youngest average age, which means that we have a lot of young people in the Union. We try to encourage, support, promote and criticize them when necessary. Such procedures can take place in the case of an important film event, such as the Debut Festival,” stated Virgiliu Mărgineanu.
Vlad Druc, director and initiator of the Debut Festival, said that the participation regulations are democratic. “Anyone who is talented or has a cinematographic debut is welcome to come and present their work. It does not go to excellent works, with social impact. It goes to explorations in the art of cinema and we welcome this,” said the director.
The selection and judging criteria are not so strict. “The festival was inaugurated rather to highlight students’ bachelor theses, or the last film after five years of study. In fact, now they study directing for four years. To the students whose works have an impact in the press, we give a bonus and welcome them to the Union of Filmmakers,” noted the filmmaker.
The Debut Film Festival is a festival-competition that will be judged and in which prizes will be conferred, including the Best Documentary Award, the Directing Award or the Screenplay Award. The overall goal of the project is to provide a platform for young filmmakers to make their cinematographic creations known.
The event will take place at the Odeon Cultural Center. Admission will be free of charge.
