The implementers of the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline project initiated the procedures for the receipt of the works on the Ungheni-Chisinau gas main. Together with specialists of the Technical Surveillance Agency, a series of technical checks are being performed, the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure stated for IPN after SRL “Eurotransgaz” at end-May announced that the gas pipeline will be ready by August 1 this year.

The Ministry noted that the official launch of the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline will take place immediately after the epidemiological situation in the country permits. Information about the place and date of the launch will be provided later.

As representatives of the investors assured, 1.5 million m3 of gas a day could be supplied through the gas pipeline at the current stage. After the compressor and gas pressure regulation station is built in Gherăești, as of January 1, 2021 there could be transported 4 million m3 of gas a day to the Republic of Moldova”, while as from October 1, 2021 – up to 6 million m3 of gas a day.

The Republic of Moldova transposed the Third Energy Package of the EU. This stipulates the liberalization of the natural gas market, the third party’s nondiscriminatory access to the natural gas transportation market, effective separation of the transmission system operator from the supplier, ensuring of the consumer’s right to replace the supplier, etc.

According to the Ministry, the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline will help ensure a competitive natural gas market in Moldova.

Moldova’s interconnection with the natural gas system of Romania is a priority on the country’s energy security agenda. The diversification of access ways with alternative sources of energy resources will have a direct positive impact on the population by increasing the country’s energy security and ensuring access to free and competitive natural gas markets.
