The project of the underground passage situated on Alecu Russo St in Chisinau is being completed and the repair works will start towards this weekend or at the start of next week.
Contacted by IPN for details, deputy mayor of Chisinau Ilie Ceban said that most of the business entities that leased or subleased commercial areas in the passage complied with the decision to free the places. After renovation, the tunnel will be pedestrian and there will be no trading units
Last week, mayor general Ion Ceban said that a temporary yellow pedestrian crossing will be painted near the public transport station on Alecu Russo St for the period of the repair works.
Asked when the other subways in the city will be repaired, Ilie Ceban noted that he cannot say as time is needed to fulfill the legal procedures and to establish cooperation relations with the companies that have commercial units in passages and these also have to be demolished. “Each underpass is examined by experts and the works that need to be executed are determined,” said the deputy mayor.
The goal is to repair five underground passages. The passage near Municipal Clinical Hospital No. 1 is also being repaired, with funds provided by the shopping center situated nearby.
In Chisinau, there are 20 underground pedestrian tunnels. Twelve of them are managed by business entities.
