As from March, the persons who fled from the armed conflict in Ukraine will be able to receive temporary protection in the Republic of Moldova for a period of a year. This way, they will have access to social assistance measures and services financed by international organizations and will benefit from more rights, such as access to studies and education, employment without needing a temporary residence and work permit, primary and emergency medical assistance, IPN reports.

To benefit from temporary one-year protection, the refugees need to file an application to the General Inspectorate for Migration of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The period can be later extended to at most two years.

Temporary protection produces effects on the person since this expresses his/her wish to benefit from this type of protection by submitting an application to obtain the identity document from the responsible authority.

The process starts with the online pre-registration of beneficiaries of temporary protection on https://temporaryprotection.gov.md and scheduling of an appointment at one of the local offices of the General Inspectorate for Migration, which will examine the information about the person and, after the interview, will issue the identity document to the beneficiary of temporary protection. More information is available on the website of the General Inspectorate for Migration and on the Inspectorate’s Green Line 0 800 015 27.
