The Ukrainian embassy to Moldova denies the information appeared in the Chisinau press that there are misunderstandings between Moldova and Ukraine because of the Dnestrovsk power plant, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Ukraine's ambassador to Moldova, Sergei Pirozhkov told a news conference on Tuesday, May 20, the information appeared in the press do not correspond to reality. According to the head of the diplomatic missions, such articles aim at destabilizing the Moldo-Ukrainian relationships and would represent an idle hotbed on the background of the Transnistrian conflict. The ambassador expressed hope this information will not affect the bilateral relationships, anyway.
The most recent article in this respect appeared on May 16 in an national publication with the title: “Why does Kiev offend Chisinau?” The authors maintain that half of the plant is on Moldovan soil, while Ukraine would try to take it from Moldova. The article goes on that Ukraine intends to give the plant's funds to a state enterprise, what would make impossible for Moldova to pretend to share from the plant. The Moldovan publication writes that, at the sitting of the Moldo-Ukrainian border demarcation Commission, Chisinau would have asked for its share.
Ukraine's embassy reminds that the construction of the plant from Dnestrovsk started in Ukraine in 1983. It is the third plant on the Nistru and all of them are on Ukraine's territory. Since August 1990, the power complex passed under Ukraine's management. Since then Ukraine has managed it all, including providing technical maintenance, constructions works and financing. Moldova never financed any plant from the complex. It took a long time to the two states to negotiate the state border on the territory of the plant.
The ambassador underlined that Moldova never claimed any part of the plant, as the demarcation commission agreed to establish the frontier on the middle of the dam. The total length of the border between Ukraine and Moldova is over 1,200 km, of which over 700 km are marked. The ambassador has said Ukraine is interested in marking the central segment along the Transnistrian area (440 km), a stalks are held under the EU's aegis.
Sergei Pirozhkov has specified the erroneous articles appeared on the eve of the Moldo-Ukrainian talk on the power tariff delivered by Ukraine to Moldova (70% of the Moldovan consumption). Ukraine supplies it at lower price than its domestic price, the Ukrainian ambassador specified. He has said his country does not plan to raise the charges to the level of the tariff on the Ukrainian market.
