Ukraine hasn't yet notified the Moldovan authorities of its new entry requirements for travellers, Iulian Groza, department head at the Moldovan MFA, told a news conference on Wednesday. Groza said the sides would hold talks soon in Chisinau or Kiev to clarify the procedures. “We'll discuss with our Ukrainian parties the steps they need to take. Our colleagues from the Consular Affairs department are already in touch with the Ukrainian side ”, said Groza. The MFA official noted that the rules adopted by the Ukrainian government are not yet in force, so the Moldovans may travel to Ukraine as before. The Ukrainian Cabinet modified the entry, exit and transit rules for foreigners and stateless persons on May 6. The new requirements apply to 90 countries, including Moldova. The essence of the new rules is to allow a visitor into Ukraine only if he/she has enough money to cover the minimum cost of the stay in Ukraine, calculated at $50 per day. This rule will not apply to transit travellers and citizens living in border areas, but will affect tourists without package holidays and persons traveling for business. In 2008 Ukraine was visited by 15,911 Moldovans, by over 2,000 fewer than in 2007.
