The Moldovan clubs will enter the European cups in August. Owing to the very tight calendar, the matches of the preliminary rounds will not be played at home and away, but only once and the host team will be decided by draw, IPN reports.
Sheriff will compete in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, on August 18 and August 19. Sfîntul Gheorghe and Petrocub will play in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League on August 27. The third team that will play in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Europa League will become known when Moldova’s Cup is over.
“I think there are no essential changes. Everything depends on the draw. The most important thing is to start the championship as swiftly as possible so that we play more matches before the European cups. Earlier we had an advantage over our opponents, but now we start everything from zero,” said the coach of Petrocub Lilian Popescu.
