Two documentaries titled "Binding" and "Big Theater of Soroca" made by two young filmmakers and produced at Telefilm-Chisinau Studio were premiered in the capital city on September 15.

Contacted by IPN, Lucia Tăut, director of the film "Binding", said the film is about the fate of a young man who was brought up by his grandparents. This is a reality lived by many Moldovans. The film was made in Țaul village of Dondușeni district where a lot of foreigners studied at the Agricultural College in the Soviet period. When some of these left, the children remained with one of the parents or with the grandparents.

The hero's mother went to Russia to work, while his father of Syrian origin returned to his country. Last autumn, Lucia Tăut formulated the idea and later collected facts. The shooting strated in spring.

The director of the second film Eugeniu Popovici said many films were made about the Roma from Soroca, but he wanted to address the subject from a different angle. Being on a trip in Soroca town, he came across the house with three horses, which is a copy of the Moscow Bolshoi Theater, and thus made a connection between theater and the theatrical nature of the Romanies from that house. "We wanted to see what's there behind the curtain and how their life is. The idea of the film appeared in September last year, while the production and filmming started in May," stated the director.

The films are the result of the training courses on documentary planning and making organized by the Council of Europe and the EU and supported by film director Irene Langemann.

Acting head of the Office of the Council of Europe in Chisinau Eva Gutjahr said the institution she represents has supported the mass media in the Republic of  Moldova during many years and often does this together with the EU.

"I think our support for Telefilm was very important in helping the department restart work after a 25-year break. We are satisified with the two films. The young filmmakers and the team of Telefilm are working with international filmmakers on another six documentaries that will appear soon," stated Alina Doroftei, of the EU Delegation in Chisinau.

The films were presented in Taul and in Soroca on September 7 and will be soon shown on TV.
