The Republic of Moldova obtained the EU candidate status only owing to the war in Ukraine, said the secretary general of the Coalition for Unity and Wellbeing (CUB) Igor Klipii. According to him, the PAS government does not excel at implementing the recommendations put forward by the European Commissions and is harshly criticized in the repots produced by international organizations, IPN reports.

Moldova’s ex-ambassador to Lithuania said the ruling party does not have any merit in the obtaining of the EU candidate status as this chance was offered to Moldova in the context of the security crisis witnessed in the region. The PAS government doesn’t explain the pre-accession processes to the population, while the people’s geopolitical preferences continue to oscillate between the West and the East.

“We are making no headway in implementing the nine recommendations. We know that they insist on the obtaining by the Republic of Moldova of the EU candidate status, but we know that this thing is due to the situation in Ukraine. If this war hadn’t existed, we wouldn’t have been invited. It was a chance to get this status. But I’ve got the impression that we are not moving in this direction. Since the status was obtained, how many people in the Republic of Moldova have better realized what European integration means, what the negotiation chapters are, what the requirements towards us are? Things are indistinct. After the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, I thought that things will be clearly delimited and the people will clearly see that the East, the political and economic civilization in Russia are noxious for the Republic of Moldova and we do not have another solution than the European integration,” Igor Klipii stated in the program “Reflection Points” on Vocea Basarabiei station.

He noted that in two years of government, the PAS has taken nontransparent actions. The CUB was founded to offer an authentic pro-European alternative to the current government.

“The parties of the right are treated by the government as the main rival. We are those who should be crushed and annihilated. Those who are now in power said they will be different. NGOs that cannot be suspected of being politically unbiased said that only 9% of the legislation that is adopted goes through public debates. This means that nontransparent decisions are taken. We have a state of emergency and have the airport incident. Everything is kept secret. They promised a report, but this wasn’t provided. There is lack of communication in any area to which we turn our attention and this means that facts are being hidden,” said the CUB secretary general.

Today it has been two years of government by the Party of Action and Solidarity. On July 11, 2021, following snap parliamentary elections, the party that is currently led by Igor Grosu gained 63 seats of MP.
