As a result of discussions between the four parties – the Democratic Party (PDM), the Party of Socialists (PSRM), the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) and the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) – it was decided to constitute two working groups. One of these groups will examine the situation in agriculture, while the other group will focus on education, primarily the beginning of the new school year. The opposition MPs insist on urgently convoking Parliament, while the parliamentary majority says solutions should be first identified, IPN reports.
In a press briefing, the president of the PDM Dumitru Diacov said it was “an interesting and hot” exchange of opinions. The working group for agriculture, which will be headed by Democratic MP Nicolae Ciubuc, is to identify solutions to the problems faced in this sector. The second group will be led by Democratic MP Monica Babuc and is to identify solutions for starting the new school year safely.
“The working groups will have consultations and will propose calling a Parliament sitting. The date when Parliament should be convoked was the most controversial issue. The opposition MPs are ready for calling a Parliament sitting in the nearest future. We consider Parliament should be convoked after these working groups draft a decision in coordination with specialized institutions,” stated Dumitru Diacov.
In another press briefing, the leader of the PAS parliamentary group Igor Grosu said they discussed the drought, the pandemic situation and the repercussions for people’s lives and also the amendment of the Election Code that remained outstanding from the session that was interrupted unexpectedly by the parliamentary majority, by two weeks earlier. There are yet disagreements as to when the extraordinary session of the legislative body should be convened. The PAS believes this should be called in a week as such a period of time is enough for all those who indeed want to come up with solutions to help the people.
PPPDA group head Alexandru Slusari told the press that their party not only once said that the current Government managed the pandemic crisis and the socioeconomic crisis incorrectly and the country needs another executive. But they agreed to discuss the problems in agriculture as there is no time left and decisions should be adopted in several days. “We ascertained rather big differences in approaches and the calling of the Parliament’s extraordinary sitting generated the greatest controversy. The opposition, in particular the PPPDA, insisted on fixing a sitting. If the colleagues from the parliamentary majority are sincere and came to this meeting to really have a dialogue, palpable solutions should be proposed,” said the MP.
Socialist MP Vlad Batrîncea said the proposal was to discuss and agree solutions, without imposing conditions. “We offered our colleagues to have a real, professional approach with financial coverage. We proposed avoiding populist approaches and acting based on the realities in the Republic of Moldova, including the financial one,” he stated. According to the MP, the Socialists consider the Government copes with the situation and manages the public money professionally. As to the opposition MPs’ proposal to urgently convoke Parliament, Vlad Batrîncea said a Parliament siting should be convened when bills are agreed and when they know that the proposals have financial coverage and are backed by the Government.
The discussions between the four parliamentary groups will continue.
