Two persons have filed the required documents to compete for Buteni mayor’s job, Zinovia Barcari, chair of the district electoral council, told Info-Prim Neo. The candidates are Communist Alexei Eremia and Tudor Agaci, representing the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) Party. Zinovia Barcari said she will soon convene the district electoral council to examine the filed documents and decide on the registration of the two candidates. Repeated attempts to elect a mayor for Buteni have been cut short, first by courts, which invalidated the results of the polls held on June 3 and 17, 2007, and then by disgruntled villagers, who blocked twice the village polling station in protest against the exclusion of the AMN candidate, Anatolie Postolache, from the mayor’s race. In December 2007, the Central Election Commission scheduled repeat elections in Buteni for March 2.
