Two persons aged 61 and 71 were killed in fires last weekend. One of the fires occurred in Abaclia village of Basarabeasca district, while the other one in Jora de Sus village of Orhei district, IPN reports.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, in an annex to a house in Abaclia firemen found the carbonized body of a man aged 61. It is presumed that the man fell asleep with a smoldering cigarette that caused a fire. Neighbors said this is not the first case when the man fell asleep with the smoldering cigarette. He related it often happened to him that he woke up when the pillow just started to burn.

In the house fire in Jora de Sus village, the firefighters found the body of the 71-year-old owner. It was preliminarily established that the man died poisoned because a blanket near the stove was smoldering.

In both of the cases, there was no one else inside the homes. The over 1,500 fires that occurred in Moldova so far this year resulted in 99 deaths.
