Two of the eight persons who were diagnosed with the novel coronavirus are in a serious, but stable state. This is the effect not of the virus, but of the related diseases from which they suffer. One of the women resorted to self-medication, ignoring the doctor’s recommendations, IPN reports.

After the meeting of the National Focal Point in the morning of March 14, Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu said none of the eight patients with COVID-19 is connected to assisted ventilation. The patients are conscious and talk to the relatives by phone. All the eighth cases are cases of import as the persons returned infected from Italy. No cases of local transmission have been recorded so far.

As many as 46 persons suspected of being infected with COVID-19 are now in the hospital. Twelve of these are children. A number of 140 persons have been tested for the novel coronavirus until now. The authorities have 1,000 tests more. The health facilities can simultaneously accommodate 2,000 infected persons and 12,000 persons suspected of being infected.

The World Health Organization declared the outbreak of COVID-19 a pandemic. The authorities in Moldova issued a red alert on March 13 given the confirmed danger of a possible public health emergency.

According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, 133,800 cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed worldwide in the period between December 31, 2019 and March 12, 2020. The death toll rose to 4,967.
