A man died after inhaling fumes from the smoldering bed linen and mattress that caught fire from a burning cigarette. A woman perished in another fire, caused by the overheated stove, IPN reports.

According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the man aged 48 was from Zagarancea village of Ungheni district. The fire didn’t extend and the assistance of firefighters wasn’t required. The body was found by neighbors.

The second case happened in Hlina, Briceni. The 80-year-old woman didn’t obey the stove using rules and paid with her life for this. The fire wasn’t large and was put out by neighbors.

The firefighting service warns that the overheating of stoves can lead to fatalities. Smoking inside homes also increases the fire risk. The 1,581 fires recorded in Moldova this year so far caused 92 deaths.
