Two criminal cases were started after the protest mounted by farmers in front of the Parliament Building on December 16. A carabineer suffered a leg injury, while another three carabineers were hit in the head, arm and abdomen, Minister of Home Affairs Pavel Voicu stated in the Cabinet meeting. He noted that 54 tractors were brought to the Parliament Building and eight of them were parked on the stairs and on the lawn, IPN reports.

Prime Minister Ion Chicu asked to ensure public order, noting that the protest authorization didn’t allow the farmers to take the tractors up on the stairs. Over 1 billion lei has been allocated to farmers this year. This is the largest sum for the purpose provided so far. “Each citizen has the right to protest, but this should be done in accordance with the law,” stated the official.

According to Premier Chicu, the budget laws and budgetary-fiscal policy will be debated in Parliament the next few days. It is important not only to adopt them, but to also provide the secondary normative framework for implementing them.
