Two candidates – lawyers Ilie Rotaru and Sergei Perju – were excluded from the contest to fill the post of prosecutor general. The decision was taken by the Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP) after examining the submitted files in a meeting held behind closed doors, IPN reports.

The Council’s chairman Dumitru Obada said that the SCP decided to exclude Ilie Rotaru from the contest for the reason that he didn’t meet the conditions for participation. Sergei Perju was excluded on the grounds that he submitted an incomplete file.

It was also noted that prosecutor Igor Demchuchin, deputy chief prosecutor of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Octavian Yakimovsky, current interim prosecutor general Ion Munteanu and jurist Andrei Coca fulfilled the conditions for participation in the contest.

The interview stage was set for February 22, 09 a.m.

The position of prosecutor general remained vacant after Alexandru Stoianoglo was dismissal from office in September 2023.
