The Broadcasting Coordination Council penalized twelve media outlets for not presenting statements designed to ensure media ownership transparency. Another 62 broadcasters presented incomplete statements and were given seven days to add the data that were missing, IPN reports.

Three radio stations and nine TV channels were given public warnings for not submitting the statements. Thirteen media outlets didn’t specify their owner, but this is a mandatory element of the statement. Twenty-five broadcasters didn’t annex the websites to the statement.

“By this evening, the statements that we examined will be placed on the website of the Broadcasting Coordination Council, in the mass media ownership transparency division. Afterward, we will notify those that were penalized and those that are to rectify the statements and to present them to the Council,” said the Council’s head Dinu Ciocan.

“I want to salute all the broadcasters that declared their owners. A first step in this direction was taken, but a lot is yet to be done. The method of financing the broadcasters is also very important,” said Council member Nicolae Damaschin.

As many as 108 of the 120 broadcasters registered in Moldova submitted such statements to the Council.
