A Turkish citizen was sentenced in Moldova to 12 years in prison for raping his concubine’s minor daughter. He managed to flee the country, but a year later, believing that the case against him was dropped, he returned to Moldova and was detained at the airport, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, it happened in August 2022. At the time, the 40-year-old man was in his concubine’s apartment in a town in central Moldova. Pursuing the goal of raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter, he took advantage of the minor’s physical inability to resist, forcibly stripped her naked and had non-consensual sexual intercourse with her.

After learning that the police had been notified, in September 2022 he left the territory of the Republic of Moldova. But in April 2023, believing that the case against him was dropped, he returned to the country and was detained inside the Chisinau International Airport.

The defendant was sentenced to 12 years in a closed prison. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court
