In the dramatic context caused by Russia’s war against Ukraine, Turkey plays an important role in regional negotiations, including for identifying peaceful solutions to stop this war, said Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. In a news conference held together with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavușoğlu, Nicu Popescu also said that Turkey always supported peace, security and wellbeing in Moldova and our country’s territorial integrity, IPN reports.

According to the Moldovan official, who paid a visit to Turkey, the discussion with his counterpart centered on the bilateral relations, the prospects of cooperation in different areas and the alleviation of the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine for the region. “Security in the Black Sea Region remains under strain. The unjust war waged by Russia against our neighbor Ukraine has lasted for ten months, causing multiple casualties and damage,” noted Nicu Popescu.

The Deputy Premier said the Republic of Moldova is seriously affected by this war that has a dramatic impact. It affects the state security of the state, generated and aggravates a large-scale energy crisis, as regards the supply of gas and electricity. Moldova experienced massive blackouts and its airspace was violated by Russian missiles. Two days ago, a piece of an unexploded rocket was found in northern Moldova.

“In this dramatic context, Turkey plays an important role in regional negotiations, including for identifying peaceful solutions to stop this war. From our perspective, Turkey has always supported the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, peace in the Republic of Moldova and Turkey is a force that contributes to peace, security and wellbeing in the Republic of Moldova. For this support, I want to thank Minister Çavușoğlu and all the citizens of Turkey, who are real friends of your country,” stated the Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
