Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation on Tuesday after which the Russian president agreed to stop attacks on energy infrastructure for 30 days, IPN reports.
"My phone conversation today with President Putin of Russia was very good and productive one. We agreed to an immediate Ceasefire on all Energy and Infrastructure, with an understanding that we will be working quickly to have a Complete Ceasefire and, ultimately, and END to this very horrible War between Russia and Ukraine... And we will, hopefully, for the sake of Humanity, get the job done," the U.S. President wrote on social media shortly after the discussion with the Russian leader.
“The leaders agreed that the movement to peace will begin with an energy and infrastructure ceasefire, as well as technical negotiations on implementation of a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, full ceasefire and permanent peace. These negotiations will begin immediately in the Middle East,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a social media post.
Vladimir Putin announced for Wednesday a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine, of 175 people from each side. At the same time, Moscow will release 23 seriously wounded Ukrainian soldiers.
The Russian leader gave assurances about the fate of Ukrainian soldiers surrounded in the Kursk region, if they surrender according to Russian law and international norms.
Among other issues discussed by Trump and Putin on Tuesday were the crisis in the Middle East and security in the Red Sea.
The two leaders agreed to maintain communication on these topics, as well as to create expert groups of the U.S. and Russia to identify diplomatic solutions to the military conflict in Ukraine.
