The municipality of Chisinau will have a beltline by 2017. The project to build the ring road bypassing Chisinau was presented by Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Vasile Botnari in a news conference on September 12, IPN reports.

The ring road will join six road sections. The first three will be given priority. The first segment of 6.6 km - M1-Ialoveni – will cost €10.1 million. It will be constructed in 2015-2016. The second segment is also part of the national road M1 and is 8 km long. This segment will be built at a cost of €17 million. A section of 9km of the M 21-Dubasari road will be renovated for the third segment, at a cost of €25.7 million. The works on the second and third segments will be performed in 2016-2017.

“The sectors one, two and three are very loaded. They are used by people, economic entities and that’s why they will be the first to be rehabilitated,” explained the minister.

The financing for the first three segments of the beltline will be provided by the European Investment Bank, while for the next three is yet to be identified. The designing of the next three segments will be finished in the near future. The total costs will be about €200 million.

“We are discussing with financial institutions from Europe and also with China. They are also interested in investing in the road sector and in the railway sector,” said the minister. He noted that the people can submit proposals for improving the project. “We will invite the people to put forward proposals. We will publish these schemes on the website and the commission of experts will assess the proposals,” said Vasile Botnari.

The Ministry of Transport announced its intention to build a ring road bypassing Chisinau municipality in January 2012. It worked out several projects. The construction works are to be finished in 2015.
