The Transnistrian region is trying to manifest itself as a subject of international law or a recognized state entity at a time when this is not real, MP of the European People’s Party of Moldova Eugen Carpov stated in the program “Red Button” on the public TV channel Moldova 1. He referred to the meeting of the PACE Sub-Committee on Conflicts between Council of Europe Member States that was recently held in Paris, IPN reports.

According to him, the Republic of Moldova should be very attentive when it accepts dialogues on the Transnistrian issue in nontraditional formats, as the one of Paris. “We have a precedent of the developments when we leave the usual formats with particular rules, a particular status for each player and procedures based on which negotiations are held,” stated Eugen Carpov.

Deputy head of the Liberal Reformist Party Tatiana Poting said she was shocked when she saw how the Transnistrian chiefs rejoiced at the end of the Paris meeting. The Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselskii presents the Paris meeting and the removal from the UN agenda of the withdrawal of the Russian army from the left side of the Nistru as a victory of Transnistria. Also, the agenda of the Paris meeting was dictated by Tiraspol, but it is Moldova that should do this. “This silence kept by the authorities as to the Paris meeting seems to me shameful conceding to the initiatives of those from Tiraspol,” stated the politician.

According to Alexandru Postica, programs director at “Promo-LEX” Association – the only Moldovan nongovernmental organization that took part in the Paris meeting - the agenda of discussions was published and included issues concerning the problems and situation in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova. The format of the event does not allow publishing the content of discussions, but the Transnistrian press reported that the local leader Vadim Krasnoselski asked his representatives at the meeting to underline the necessity of internationally recognizing the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.

The meeting of the PACE Sub-Committee on Conflicts between Council of Europe Member States took place in Paris on January 16.
