The Transnistrian region is facing an acute shortage of judges. The region’s administration announced that the posts of judges at some of the courts of law are all vacant, IPN reports.

According to “Novyi Reghion” Agency, the supreme court’s board on military cases is in the most difficult situation. All the positions of judge are vacant there. Only 7 of the 13 posts are filled at the board on criminal cases, while the board on civil cases lacks three judges.

President of the Transnistrian supreme court Vladimir Rimari, who informed the region’s administration about the critical situation, said the reason is the low salaries of judges that are not in line with the difficult work conditions.

The problem of insufficiency of staff is typical of the whole country, according to the Legal Resources Center. In a report, the Center says that 80 posts were vacant in the legal system until recently. But there are not more than 15 graduates who can apply for them. Jurist Ion Guzun, co-author of the report, has told IPN that if Chisinau had to provide skilled judges for the Transnistrian region too, it wouldn’t cope.
