Representatives of nongovernmental organizations, local public authorities and citizens exchanged eco-friendly methods of waste management in a workshop staged by WiSDOM association. The event brought together experts from the Republic of Moldova, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Belarus and Italy.

In a news conference at IPN, ECOTOX president Elena Zubkov said the workshop was held in the framework of the CRoCuS project. The project centers on informational aspects about solid waste in our region and on good techniques for composting, reusing solid waste and for protecting the hydrographic basin from pollution, primarily with microplastic and organic solid waste. “An international seminar organized by WiSDOM was held today. Presentations from a number of countries, such as Romania, Moldova and Italy, were made in this,” stated professor-researcher Elena Zubkov, who is a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences.

Nadejda Andreev, head of the public association ”Women in Sustainable Development of Moldova” (WiSDOM), said that today’s workshop brought together a large number of participants, namely representatives of mayor’s offices, educational institutions, cleanup associations, public associations interested in waste management etc. The participants shared good sustainable waste management practices and methods of improving waste collection and recycling systems.

The doctor of biological science also said that there was presented the Trash Alert Mobile Application (TAMA). This is a useful instrument for citizens and LPAs for efficiently managing waste. “We formulated messages about eventual possibilities of improving cooperation between civil society and the local public authorities and about how the educational institutions can be involved in the raising of the population’s awareness of waste management,” stated Nadejda Andreev.

The CRoCuS project is implemented in partnership by Earth Forever Foundation (Bulgaria), the public association WiSDOM and the public association Ecotox (Moldova), Mama-86 Nova Kahovka (Ukraine) and the Oancea mayor’s office (Romania) and is financed by the European Union through the European Neighborhood Instrument as part of the Joint Operational Program Black Sea Basin 2014-2020.
