The Moldova authorities’ decision to expel two Romanian diplomats will not influence Romania’s policy on Moldova because Romania does not address the presidents, the Governments of Moldova or the government institutions, President of Romania Traian Basescu told reporters. “We aim to support the Romanians from Moldova, all those that speak Romanian,” Basescu said. The president added that these measures will not make the Romanian authorities hinder the Romanians from Moldova from crossing the border, stressing that these are only challenges. He underlined that he will insistently ask the Government to take steps to further facilitate the access to visas, to the EU labour market and to education in Romania. On December 12, the Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Filip Teodorescu was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova and familiarised with a Verbal Note by which two diplomas of the diplomatic mission were declared unwelcome in Moldova and asked to leave the country within 24 hours. The Moldovan Opposition parties criticised this decision.
