The Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova (CSRM) will organise on Friday, February 23, in the National Opera Square, protests against the suspension by the authorities of the implementation of the Wage Law starting January 1. An estimated 7 to 8 thousand people are expected to attend the meeting – employees in education, medicine, culture, science, supported by other CSRM members, including those from the consumption cooperation, public alimentation, as well as transporters and patent holders.
Head of CSRM Petru Chiriac told a press conference on Tuesday that the trade unions express their deep concern about the suspension of the Wage Law, a fact which led to internal issues within the staffs. “By invoking the lack of financial resources, of the economic progress and considering us an obedient people, the leadership did its most to cheat us again”, Chiriac said.
The head of the Education and Science Union, Ion Bulat, pleaded for the annulment of all the amendments to the Wage Law and its implementation in the initial form. Even if the law would be implemented starting April 1, trade union members will miss from 3 to 6 raises, the quoted source said.
According to Bulat, participants in the meeting will frame a grievance concerning the adjustment of the first category budgetary wage to the minimum living standard.
At the same time, trade unions will request the enforcement by the authorities of the prescriptions of the Education Law, according to which the minimum wage for teaching staff cannot be lower than the average salary in the national economy. They will also request the urgent approval of the Law on teaching staff’s status, the payment of the wage debts for workers in financially autonomous enterprises and civil servants.
Trade unionists mentioned that the meeting will be organised so that the studying process is not affected, reckoning on the teachers who work in the second shift, the additional personnel and all those who are free in the first half of the day.
The meeting is authorised by the Chisinau City Hall.
