Medical tourism in Moldova has become an increasingly attractive sector for patients from all over the world. Specialists in the field say that by providing quality services at affordable prices, our country has succeeded in attracting the attention of those seeking dental treatment, surgery or rehabilitation procedures at European standards, IPN reports.
Among the most popular fields for foreign patients are dentistry, aesthetic and plastic surgery, in vitro fertilization and ophthalmology.
Also, mediacal tourism specialists say that foreign patients often request curative offers of relaxation and strengthening of general health in sanatoriums.
Asked by IPN, Maria Marinuta, the director of a travel agency that also provides medical tourism services, said that one of the main advantages of Moldova is the low cost of treatments compared to other European countries. For example, dental or cosmetic operations can cost up to 50-70% less than in Western European countries, without compromising on the quality of medical services.
In addition, says Marinuta, doctors in Moldova are well trained, many of them having studied and specialized abroad. Clinics are equipped with modern equipment and services are provided in a professional manner, adapted to international standards.
An additional attraction for patients is the possibility to combine medical treatment with tourism, exploring the country's historical and cultural sights.
In addition to the benefits for patients, medical tourism agents point out that it also contributes significantly to the national economy. Investments in medical infrastructure, the development of related services and the international promotion of Moldova as a top medical destination benefit both the private sector and the economy as a whole. Authorities and business are working together to turn Moldova into a regional hub for quality healthcare.
Medical tourism managers explain that to receive medical services in Moldova, international patients can go directly to clinics or to specialized medical tourism agencies, which handle travel arrangements, treatment scheduling and patient accommodation.
The authorities note that in April 2024, at the General Assembly of the Global Medical Tourism Council, attended by more than 50 countries, Moldova won the majority of votes, beating Germany and Saudi Arabia, which were in the same race to win the presidency of the Global Medical Tourism Council. Thus the Republic of Moldova, represented by the Medical Tourism Association, took over the presidency of the GHTC for the period 2024-2026.
At the same time, representatives of the medical tourism branch say that the Republic of Moldova continues to develop its private medical sector, attracting an increasing number of patients from outside the country. With its affordable prices, high quality services and recognized hospitality, the country is becoming an increasingly popular destination on the European medical tourism map.
