To be able to channel the peacemaking process, the Republic of Moldova needs a new approach, new people and new subjects of the 5+2 format. The issue was developed in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Speaking about the Transnistrian talks in the 5+2 format, colonel in reserve of the Security and Intelligence Service Alexandru Popescu said the Republic of Moldova should not follow the same path as now because this does not produce results. “Any meeting of the Joint Control Commission held with delay and any attempt by the sides to address a problem fail,” stated Alexandru Popescu.

According to him, one of the members of this format, the Russian Federation, is absolutely biased towards the Transnistrian side and openly supports the destructive ideas and the separatist character.

The colonel in reserve noted that what the Transnistrian administration does is aimed at provoking the Moldovan authorities to take action by using force so as to be able to riposte in the same way. This would enable it later to break the fragile peace existing in the region.

Constitutional law expert Teodor Carnat said the Transnistrian issue can be resolved only by the state authorities of the Republic of Moldova because this is not an interstate conflict. He wondered if the peace agreement signed with the Russian Federation in 1992 is still valid. “This agreement stipulates that the Joint Control Commission will intervene every time the sides will not respect the freedom of goods, people and circulation. We every time see that a party, I refer to the separatists from the left side of the Nistru, flagrantly violates this agreement of 1992,” stated the expert.
