The administration of the secondary school of Corjova village was visited by representatives of the paramilitary bodies of the Transnistrian region, who informed that they intend to take over the school’s buildings and offer them to the local militia. The school’s principal Constantin Sucitu has told IPN that the rent for the buildings hasn’t been paid since last July owing to misunderstandings between Tiraspol and Chisinau.

The school’s administration was given several days to pay the overdue rent or the leases will be terminated. The Ministry of Education, the Reintegration Office and the OSCE Mission to Moldova were informed about the situation.

Constantin Sucitu said the monthly rent was 50,000 lei, but now is probably higher as the Transnistrian ruble appreciated against the Moldovan lei.

The school’s administration calls on the constitutional authorities, Moldova’s civil society and the diplomatic corps to intervene and prevent the forced closure of the education institution.

At the end of the 2013-2014 school year, the secondary school in Corjova was attended by 93 children. Constantin Sucitu anticipates that more parents will enroll their children at the school’s training center as the kindergarten fees in the region have doubled.
