The Moldovan Thermoelectric Plant (MGRESS, Kuchurgan) in the Transnistrian region is to ensure electricity supplies to the right bank of the Nistru at least until the end of this year, as stipulated in the contract with JSC Energocom. Subsequently, depending on the natural gas deliveries on the left bank, it will be decided on the extension of the contract with MGRES, secretary of state of the Ministry of Energy Constantin Borosan has told IPN following reports about the Transnistrian administration’s plans to restrict exports of energy resources.

The leader of the Transnistria administration on Monday signed the "order" on the declaring of a state of emergency in the economy in the Transnistrian region, and the initiative is to be approved by the so-called Supreme Soviet. As a result, a number of measures will be put in place in the context of a possible cessation of natural gas supplies to the region. One of them is the restriction of exports of any type of energy.

The secretary of state of the Ministry of Energy said that the Chisinau authorities are closely following the evolution of the situation on the left bank. The emergency situation in the region has not yet entered into force, but the so-called order shows that the Transnistrian administration wants to create a framework in the context of the energy situation. It provides, for example, for the establishment of a special mechanism for the purchase of gas, but also for the allocation of budgetary resources.

"We are glad that the left bank is thinking about it," said Constantin Borosan.

As for electricity supplies, the secretary of state said that Energocom and MGRES signed a contract that is valid until the end of this year. Normally, it should be extended. However, the authorities have also analyzed the scenario according to which, in the absence of gas, MGRES will no longer deliver electricity to the right bank.

"This situation was foreseen. That's why we extended the public service obligations for Energocom so that it can purchase the necessary energy from all possible sources," Constantin Borosan has told IPN.

According to him, Energocom officials are in touch with those from MGRES.
