The Moldovan authorities reported blockages witnessed in the Transnistrian region over the past few weeks. “Tiraspol creates additional impediments for the access of representatives of political parties, as well as journalists or people of culture from the right bank of the Nistru in order to avoid any interaction of them with the citizens of the Republic of Moldova from the eastern districts,” said the Bureau for Reintegration Policies, noting that the so-called Transnistrian forces thoroughly check all means of transport heading to Bender municipality and the left bank of the Nistru so as to prevent the dissemination of electoral materials or advertisements related to the October 20 referendum, IPN reports.

The Bureau said the request to allow, on referendum day, the access of representatives of the electoral commissions with the mobile ballot box to the eastern districts was not accepted by Tiraspol.

“All citizens of the Republic of Moldova, regardless of their place of residence, are expected to vote in the presidential election and the referendum on October 20. For our fellow citizens from eastern districts, 30 polling stations will be established within the perimeter of the Security Zone, in localities that are under the effective control of the constitutional authorities,” reads a press release from the Bureau.

In this connection, the Moldovan authorities repeatedly asked Tiraspol to refrain from any obstruction of the October 20 election and referendum and from any attempt to get directly or indirectly involved in the electoral process.
