Three teachers suspected of bribery

Three female teachers at the Republican Informatics College are suspected of taking bribe. They risk fines of up to MDL 60 thousand or jail terms from 3 to 7 years, combined with a prohibition to hold a certain position and perform specific activities for up to five years.
According to the press unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the teachers were caught in the act by the Rascani Police Precinct officers, in the moment when some students were bribing the women to pass their exams.
A 62-year-old chemistry teacher, and a geography teacher, 49, are suspected of extorting money from a student in exchange for exams. The teachers were caught in the moment when they were receiving MDL 200 each in marked bills.
An English teacher from the same college was arrested for the same reason. She reportedly requested MDL 300 for exams from a girl student.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated on the cases, which fall under the article 324 p.1 of the Penal Code “passive corruption”.
25 cases of corruption were reported in 2007.
