The nominees of three political parties on Friday formally asked the Chisinau electoral body to be registered as mayoral candidates in the November 5 general local elections.
Following a drawing of lots, Dragoș Galbur, of the Moldovan National Party, was assigned number 17 on the ballot, and Alla Popova, of the Moldovan Patriots Party, number 18. Anatolie Prohnițchi, of the Green Ecologist Party, drew number 19.
To date, 12 candidates have been registered, and the following order has been preliminarily established for them on the ballot paper:
1. Vasile Costiuc, the Democratia Acasa Party;
2. Ruslan Codreanu, of the eponymous electoral bloc;
3. Constantin Butucel, the Acasa Construim Europa Party;
4. Ion Ștefăniță, the Respect Moldova Movement;
5. Diana Caraman, the Communist Party;
6. Lilian Carp, the Action and Solidarity Party;
7. Anatol Usatîi, the Development and Consolidation Party;
8. Vadim Brînzaniuc, the European Social Democratic Party;
9. Ion Bulgac, the Unity and Welfare Coalition;
10. Adrian Albu, the Socialist Party;
11. Mihail Poleanschi, the Civic Congress; and
12. Victor Chironda, the Dignity and Truth Party.
The Chisinau Electoral Council is yet to decide on the registration of Oleg Burlacu, of the Liberal Democratic Party (13), Vasile Bolea, of the Renaissance Political Party (14), Roman Mihăeș, of the National Liberal Party (15), and Ion Ceban , of the National Alternative Movement Party (16).
Mayoral and City Council candidates may apply for registration with the Chisinau Electoral Council until October 6 inclusive, with the Council having 7 days from submission to decide on the registration.
898 mayoral and 11,058 local councilor positions will be up for election across Moldova in the November 5 local general elections. Campaigning will be officially allowed from October 6.
