Three independent candidates and two representatives of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) will become mayors following the snap mayoral elections held in five localities on December 5, IPN reports, quoting the Central Election Commission.
In Cupcini town of Edineț district, independent Ludmila Magu won 51.57% of the vote, beating Nicolai Melnic, of the Electoral Bloc of Communists and Socialists.
The snap mayoral elections in Opaci village of Căușeni district were won by independent Roman Pinteac with 57% of the vote. His opponent was Constantin Lungu of PAS.
The mayoralty of Hârtop village of Cimișlia district will be held by independent Vitalie Caraja who defeated Ion Negru of PAS with 60% of the vote.
PAS candidate Aurelia Temciuc will serve as mayor of Bălceana village of Hâncești district after winning the elections with 57.3% of the ballot. Her challenger was Ivan Tentiuc of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform”.
PAS candidate Larisa Tomșa won the mayoral elections in Cneazevca village of Leova district with 53.33% of the poll, beating her BECS rival Alexei Cebotari.
In Opaci, the voter turnout was 36% or 947 persons, in Hârtop – 37% or 668 persons, in Cupcini – 31% or 2,284, in Bălceana – almost 41% or 542 persons, in Cneazevca – 43% or 406 persons.
The Electoral Code provides that the runoff vote is won by the candidate who gains the largest number of votes. If the score of the two candidates is equal, the elections are won by the candidate who obtained more votes in the first round of voting.
