The quality indicators of wheat this year are better than last year, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Anatol Spivacenco informed at a meeting of the national harvesting staff, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The wheat stored at elevators contains up to 23% of gluten, some of it even over 25%. Last year, the highest level of gluten content was 21%. About 7% of the wheat with a gluten content of 18-22% could not be used in alimentation.
“Studies show the food wheat this year will make up about 45% of the total production volume, i.e. approximately 346,000 tonnes. So, the country’s food security will be ensured. Moreover, the state reserve includes 50,000 tonnes of food wheat. The necessities of fodder will also be satisfied,” Anatol Spivacenco said.
The winter wheat occupied an area of 317,420 hectares. The average yield per hectare was 24.2 quintals. According to the Agriculture Ministry’s data, the average productivity per hectare in Briceni, Donduseni, Edinet, Falesti and Rascani districts varied between 30-35 quintals.
The harvesting of wheat and other grain crops and legumes of the first class from the 448,200 hectares ended two weeks earlier than in 2008. The total yield is 1.19 million tonnes.
