The authorities are expecting this year a global grapes harvest of about 560,000 tonnes, which is by 100,000 bigger than the 2006 one. Responsible people in the agro industrial agency “Moldova-Vin” stated on August 16 within the meeting of the National Commission on Emergency Situations that to support the agricultural producers, the Agency worked out an action programme stipulating among other things organizing the purchase of the hybrid sort grapes by some wine making enterprises and packaging plants. Premier Vasile Tarlev requested the responsible bodies to interfere operatively in order to make sure the wine-making enterprises are paying the producers the debts on the raw material purchased last year. Experts in “Moldova-Vin” say the drought did not affect the grapes harvest, but it only speeded up the process for vine vegetation. The plantations were less exposed to illnesses, and the sugar content in the grapes is bigger. Out of the 560,000 tonnes, 100 thousand tonnes will be the table grapes harvest.
