According to the OSCE representative, the intention to launch a politic dialogue between those two institutions was one of the main goals of his visit. Kiljunen declared that, at the moment, when the situation between the two sides “is not the best one”, the dialogue between the Parliament from Chisinau and the Supreme Soviet from Tiraspol could contribute to improving the situation, inclusively on resuming negotiations. According to the same source, another goal of his visit was the familiarization with the situation from the region, with the political progresses and evolutions. After discussing with Moldovan MPs, including with the Speaker Marian Lupu, but also with Evgheni Sevciuk, the chairman of the Supreme Soviet from Tiraspol, Kiljunen said that he observed within both institutions the availability to resume the political dialogue, qualifying this fact as a significant result of his visit. The quoted source declared that the team supports the efforts directed towards launching again the dialogue between the two sides. Asked about if the negotiations between the Parliament and the Supreme Soviet would mean the recognition of Transnistria, OSCE official answered “absolutely no”, specifying that “in the case we want to find a peaceful solutions for this conflict”, dialogue and discussions are needed”. Kiljunen reiterated that on the agenda of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, which will take place during July 3-7 in Brussels, a supplementary item referring to the approval of a resolution on the situation of the Republic of Moldova has been added. According to the high official, this draft stipulates clearly the compulsory character of respecting the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, within the internationally recognized boundaries; offering a special statute to Transnistria and transforming the peace-keeping forces into an international peace-keeping mission. As well Kiljunen states that the resolution will express the regret about the fact that the Russian Federation is not respecting the obligations taken in Istanbul in 1999 regarding the withdrawal of troops and munitions out of the territory of Moldova. Kimmo Kiljunen has visited the Republic of Moldova during June 12-14. In this time he also paid a visit to Tiraspol.
