There is a clear European perspective for the Republic of Moldova. Also, there is enormous determination, including in the Government and in the majority existing in Parliament, to follow namely this path and to fight corruption and ensure the independence of the judicial system, European Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn said in Chisinau after a meeting with President Maia Sandu, IPN reports.

The European official noted that the Republic of Moldova follows a correct path. “This fact was recognized by the European Union member states. Therefore, we really feel this duty to help you, to assist you, especially in these difficult moments experienced by the Republic of Moldova. We were all confronted by the consequences of the war in Ukraine and, evidently, the recent developments in the Russian-occupied territories are something unacceptable. This is something that should be further denounced given that the respect for the territorial integrity of the states is one of the fundamental aspects of international coexistence. This war affects the whole world and we should further remain defenders of these international principles,” stated Johannes Hahn.

In connection with the crises experienced by Moldova, the official noted that the EU increased its financial support for the country the past few years and it now totals about €750 de million. This support will be further raised. “I want to reaffirm that Europe is not only on your side but we really want to help you, especially with the problems related to the logistics chains, energy supplies, etc. You are an EU candidate country but must become an EU member state. For the purpose, we must work together as being protected against risks and challenges is the advantage of being the member of a larger family,” said the European official.

“Your visit confirms the very good dialogue we have with the European Commission as an EU candidate country. The obtaining of the candidate status in June is probably the most important accomplishment of our country this year. This status gives us hope during the extremely difficult period through which we are going. It enables us to anchor Moldova in an economic, political and value space with which we identify ourselves and to develop in a clear direction that offers our citizens the prospect of a better, peaceful and prosperous future in a democratic country. The European integration is our national project on which we will work by combining the forces of the whole society,” stated President Sandu.
