The head of the Public Association "Consumer Protection" Piotr Guțul said that consumers' rights in the Republic of Moldova are not respected and this happens for years. According to him, the state – starting with the courts and law enforcement agencies and ending with the President – ignores these rights that are guaranteed by the Law on Consumer Protection.
In a news conference hosted IPN, Piotr Guțul said that the law on consumer protection was adopted in 2003 and underwent a series of amendments since then. Today, the courts refuse to examine consumer complaints.
In his opinion, the increase in the landline charges is an example. When this happened, the association filed a complaint with the Prosecutor General, but they did not receive any response. Then it filed lawsuit, asking to start a criminal investigation, but to no avail. Therefore, Piotr Guțul wonders why reforms are being done in the judiciary if the system is not functional.
"Dear consumers, please tell me how much longer are you all going to keep your mouths shut and vote for bandits? 33 years of democracy in the Republic of Moldova and what have we come to? The housing and communal sector is destroyed. You aren’t given any aid, not even legal aid. They didn't offer it to you and they won't offer it to you," said Piotr Guțul.
The leader of the association wonders what Europe can we talk about when the Republic of Moldova ignores the law and international principles. According to Piotr Guțul, "the current democracy has turned into the plague of the 21st century."
